Captions turn on,
even on the next video

When a video has an available caption track, subtitle.im can turn on YouTube's existing captions. Your settings carry over to the next video. It does not generate new captions.

When burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions
use different languages, choose how to handle them

If burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages, you can close the captions automatically, be asked first, or keep them. Detection acts only with supported languages and sufficient evidence.

FAQ

How do I turn off subtitles on YouTube? Why does one layer remain?
Click CC in the YouTube player to turn off switchable captions. Burned-in subtitles are part of the video image, so CC cannot remove them. subtitle.im detects these subtitles and handles duplicate captions according to your settings. A manual CC change stops automatic adjustment for this viewing without changing saved rules.
How do I turn on subtitles on YouTube automatically?
Click CC in the YouTube player to turn on available subtitles. Enable automatic caption opening in subtitle.im to repeat this when you play a video with an available track. If no track is available, the extension cannot generate or translate subtitles.
What if burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages?
With enough evidence of burned-in subtitles in another language, it follows your choice: close automatically, ask first or keep the switchable captions. Choose keep if you want both languages visible.
Can it detect burned-in subtitles in every video?
It can generally detect most clear, common burned-in subtitles, though misses and false positives can occur. Low resolution, unusual placement or complex lettering can reduce accuracy. When evidence is insufficient it keeps switchable captions; if they are hidden by mistake, undo from the prompt or turn YouTube CC back on.
How do I restore captions hidden by mistake?
Use Undo or Restore in the extension prompt, or turn YouTube CC back on. Restoration affects this viewing only and does not remove burned-in subtitles from the image.
Are video frames uploaded?
Recognizes text in your browser without uploading frames. No email needed for the free trial.
How are the 10 free videos counted?
Each installation includes 10 different free videos. Only successful caption closures count; detection, failed recognition, manual CC changes and rewatches do not.
Can I buy or activate Pro now?
Annual and Lifetime Pro are available to buy. Sign in and pay through Waffo hosted checkout; check the total, taxes, renewal and cancellation terms there. Pro depends on server-confirmed payment and access records. Signing in or returning to the website alone does not activate access.
